This is a superb quality fielded panel golden oak roll top desk circa 1880 – 1900 constructed with the best quality oak. It has recently been restored and boasts four graduated drawers in each pedestal. The right hand pedestal features a segmented filing drawer in the bottom drawer of the pedestal. The desk boasts solid golden oak fielded panels throughout and features the original oak cup handles. The desk has an oak modesty board, two pull-out writing slides and the interior has 7 internal drawers (two of which are secret) 18 internal compartments with a 2 pen trays and 4 drawers in each pedestal. The desk features a locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed (this also locks the central drawer which is very rare to see). The original lock and key was built by “The Arvon” (which is stamped on the key plate on the front of the desk). The internal drawers are constructed of sycamore. The desk dismantles into three sections for easy storage or transportation. The sides of the desk are “S” shaped and have moulded panels allowing the desk to sit freestanding in the centre of a room. The desk is complete with the original working key which operates a secret locking mechanism for the fall and all exterior drawers. It is rare to see the central drawer included in the locking mechanism – this is a sign of the quality of this desk.
Condition Report:
The desk has recently been restored and is therefore in complete working order. The roll-top has a smooth sliding action (not like some other roll-tops that can be very stiff). Some nominal old use marks. Free of active worm-worm, solid in joint and ready to use. It features the original working key. Please remember that this item is over 100 years old so there will always be some minor wear.
